While most trainers evolve Electabuzz into Electivire immediately, the unevolved form has a niche with Eviolite boosting its defenses. Only weak to Ground. Can go either physical or special depending on the set. A longtime staple going back to Gen 1.
Everything pushes toward mixed damage here. Electabuzz's Speed does the work, Defense pays the price. But you're still getting 2 Speed EVs per KO. Tough to catch, on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
Normally found near power plants, they can wander away and cause major blackouts in cities.
Electabuzz Weakness
AvgGround-type moves hit Electabuzz for super-effective damage. Not many exploitable gaps in the Electric typing defensive chart. Electabuzz's special bulk (base 85 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split
Partway through Elekid's chain, Electabuzz is a Electric type pushing toward Electivire. No breeding at this stage. So far, Sp.Atk got the biggest boost (+30 from Elekid). The final form adds another 50 stats on top.
How to Evolve
Start with flexible EVs EVs. A nature nature gives Electabuzz the right balanced lean, an item adds extra utility, and an ability works in the background. Thunderbolt is the main damage option.

The level-up pool is slim, so TMs matter here. Electabuzz's Normal and Fighting coverage all comes from technical machines, built on top of Thunder and Thunderbolt for same-type damage. Thunder and Double-Edge are the payoff moves.

At 490 BST, Electabuzz is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Electivire before bringing it to any serious fight.
Watch for Rhydon (Ground) when using Electabuzz. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. Electabuzz's base 105 Speed lets it outpace many threats and strike first, which matters more than trying to tank hits.
Elekid evolves into Electabuzz at level 30. Electabuzz evolves into Electivire while holding a Electirizer. Electabuzz is a middle-stage evolution in the Elekid line.
Electabuzz is a mixed attacker — base 83 Attack and 95 Sp. Atk. Enough bulk to take a hit or two, too. But the speed tells the real story — base 105 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. Fits the pivot role.
