While most trainers evolve Electabuzz into Electivire immediately, the unevolved form can still contribute in the right matchup. Only weak to Ground. Can go either physical or special depending on the set. A longtime staple going back to Gen 1.
Everything pushes toward mixed damage here. Electabuzz's Speed does the work, Defense pays the price. But you're still getting 2 Speed stat exp per KO. Tough to catch, on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
When two ELECTABUZZ touch, they control the electric currents to communicate their feelings.
Electabuzz Weakness
GoodGround-type moves hit Electabuzz for super-effective damage. Not many exploitable gaps in the Electric typing defensive chart. Electabuzz's special bulk (base 85 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
- Special stat split into Sp.Atk and Sp.Def
Electabuzz connects Elekid to Electivire in this chain. At least one evolution here needs a trade. So far, Sp.Atk got the biggest boost (+30 from Elekid). The final form adds another 50 stats on top.
How to Evolve
Breed with Electabuzz to get Elekid eggs using 15 partners from the Humanshape egg group. Notable egg moves include Barrier, Cross Chop, Karate Chop and 2 more.

Without breeding, Electabuzz misses out on Barrier and Cross Chop. That's 5 egg moves adding depth that the base kit lacks. STAB comes from Zap Cannon and Thunder, with coverage across 8 types rounding things out.

Electabuzz sits at moderate rates across 2 spots in mid-game routes. Pick one from the sorted list and commit to it. Jumping between areas wastes more time than waiting in the right location.
Where To Catch Electabuzz in Crystal

At 490 BST, Electabuzz is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Electivire before bringing it to any serious fight.
Watch for Rhydon (Ground) when using Electabuzz. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. Electabuzz's base 105 Speed lets it outpace many threats and strike first, which matters more than trying to tank hits.
Elekid evolves into Electabuzz at level 30. Electabuzz evolves into Electivire while holding a Electirizer. Electabuzz is a middle-stage evolution in the Elekid line.
Electabuzz is a special attacker with base 95 Sp. Atk. Enough bulk to take a hit or two, too. But the speed tells the real story — base 105 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. Fits the pivot role.
