Latias Best Moveset
Dragon/Psychic at 110 Sp. Atk and 130 Sp. Def with 110 Speed. AbilityLevitate grants Ground immunity. Held ItemWeakness Policy triggers on super-effective hits for +2 Attack and Sp. Atk. NatureTimid outspeeds most of the format. The moveset fires special dual TermStab at elite pace. A-Tier as a fast special attacker with absurd special bulk.
Dragon/Psychic with Soul Dew boosted both special stats by 50% in Gen III (Ruby & Sapphire). Banned from standard play. Even without the item, 130 Sp. Def was elite.

Dropped to standard play without Soul Dew in Gen IV (Diamond & Pearl). Calm Mind plus Recover made it a self-sufficient sweeper that walled specials while boosting.
Special Sweeper Moveset
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Trick
- Dragon Pulse
Recommended Teammates
Healing Wish sacrificed Latias to fully heal a teammate in Gen V (Black & White). A unique support option alongside Calm Mind sweeping and defensive pivoting.
Special Attacker Moveset
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Healing Wish
- Recover
Recommended Teammates
Defog gave Latias hazard removal on top of everything else in Gen VI (X & Y). Four gens at the top. Calm Mind, Recover, Healing Wish, Defog — incredibly versatile.
Wall Moveset
- Defog
- Healing Wish
- Thunder Wave
- Draco Meteor
Recommended Teammates
Dropped in Gen VII (Sun & Moon). Fairy-types resisted Dragon STAB, and the Tapus with terrain abilities challenged Latias's special walling dominance.
Special Revenge Killer Moveset
- Draco Meteor
- Defog
- Healing Wish
- Psychic
Recommended Teammates
Consistent at A-Tier in Gen VIII (Sword & Shield). Strong enough for the tier below the top but couldn't quite compete at the highest level anymore.
Special Setup Sweeper Moveset
- Calm Mind
- Draco Meteor
- Aura Sphere
- Psychic
Recommended Teammates
Three gens at A-Tier in Gen IX (Scarlet & Violet). Still good, just not the force it was during four straight gens of S-Tier dominance.
Special Setup Sweeper Moveset
- Calm Mind
- Stored Power
- Aura Sphere
- Recover
Recommended Teammates
Latias Weakness
Latias is weak to Ice, Bug, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, and Fairy. It resists 6 types, so it can switch into a lot of moves safely. Levitate grants an additional Ground immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Latias's special bulk (base 150 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Ice, Bug, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, Fairy |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Water, Electric, Grass, Fighting, Psychic |

Base Stats
Nothing fancy in Latias's spread. It leans special with Sp. Def out front. And you'll get 3 Sp. Def EVs per KO for it. Follows a slow 1.25M XP grind.
Both its flying capabilities and its attack power have increased. It scatters transparent down to confuse its enemies.
Latias Guide
Latias is a Legendary Pokemon rated S-Tier. At 700 BST, it hits hard. It excels as a setup sweeper. That 150 base Sp. Def does the heavy lifting.
Yes. Mega Latias is the evolved form, sitting at 800 BST. Big power spike over base Latias (700). Equip the Mega Stone and it transforms in battle.
Latias's biggest threats include Walrein (Ice), Pinsir (Bug), and Gengar (Ghost), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Dragon, Dark, and Fairy-type attackers are also a problem. With 6 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter. Latias has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.
Latias gets Levitate. But Levitate is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that. With base 110 Speed, Levitate gives Latias an edge before opponents can react.
Latias is a special attacker with base 140 Sp. Atk. Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 110 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. Fits the setup sweeper role.
Game Availability
Since Ruby & Sapphire, Latias has appeared in 16 games. Legendary Pokemon like Latias are usually found through story events or special post-game areas rather than random encounters.
