Flygon Best Moveset
100/100 balanced Attack and Speed on Ground/Dragon with AbilityLevitate blocking Ground moves entirely. Held ItemLife Orb with NatureJolly pushes physical Ground and Dragon TermStab to solid damage. The moveset outspeeds a chunk of the tier and hits from the physical side. MoveU-turn pivots to keep momentum. C-Tier as a fast offensive pivot with Ground immunity.
Ground/Dragon with Levitate in Gen III (Ruby & Sapphire). Immune to Electric and Ground, 100 Speed, and Earthquake STAB. One of the best offensive pivots available.

Two gens at the top in Gen IV (Diamond & Pearl). U-turn gave Flygon scouting, and with Garchomp banned from standard play, Flygon filled the premier Ground/Dragon slot.

Garchomp returned to the top tier in Gen V (Black & White) and did everything Flygon did with higher stats. Same typing, worse numbers. Flygon became the budget option.

Garchomp got a Mega Evolution in Gen VI (X & Y). Flygon got nothing. The gap between them widened, and Flygon fell further into its rival's shadow.

Same Garchomp problem in Gen VII (Sun & Moon). 100/80/80 stats were acceptable but Garchomp's 102 Speed plus higher Attack made every comparison unflattering.

Three straight gens in Garchomp's shadow in Gen VIII (Sword & Shield). Same typing, worse stats. U-turn scouting wasn't enough to justify picking it over its rival.

Fell further in Gen IX (Scarlet & Violet). Garchomp continued to dominate the Ground/Dragon role. Flygon was the eternal understudy that never got its moment back.

Flygon Weakness
Type-wise, Flygon takes extra damage from Ice, Dragon, and Fairy. Watch out for Ice attacks, those deal 4x damage. Electric moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. Levitate grants an additional Ground immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. With 80 HP and balanced defenses, Flygon can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Ice |
| 2x (Weak) | Dragon, Fairy |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Poison, Rock |

Base Stats
Flygon's stats barely vary. 6 sit in respectable range with no real gaps. It's a blank slate for EV investment. Worth 3 Attack and Speed EVs, 1.06M XP medium-slow curve to max.
It whips up sandstorms with powerful flaps of its wings. It is known as the Desert Spirit.
Flygon Guide
Don't let Flygon's 520 base stat total fool you. Levitate is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier as a sweeper.
Run Levitate on Flygon. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. With base 100 Speed, Levitate gives Flygon an edge before opponents can react.
Flygon fills the sweeper role. It's a physical attacker with base 100 Attack. Base 100 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
The core moveset is Earthquake, Dragon Dance, U Turn, and Dragonclaw. Earthquake leads at 0% usage. Earthquake provides reliable STAB damage.
Game Availability
Flygon first appeared in Ruby & Sapphire and has been available in 15 games across 8 generations. Obtainable through wild encounters in most titles where it appears.
