Is Aegislash Good in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon Playthrough?

Steel/Ghost with AbilityStance Change flipping between Shield Forme (extreme defenses) and Blade Forme (extreme offenses). [move:king's-shield] switches back to Shield after attacking. Immune to Normal, Fighting, and Poison. Handles Mina, contributes at the E4, and walls Ultra Necrozma's Photon Geyser with Steel resistance. One of the best Pokemon in any Alola run.

Aegislash Weakness

Fire, Ground, Ghost, and Dark moves hit Aegislash for super-effective damage. The upside? Normal, Fighting, and Poison-type moves can't touch it at all. 9 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that. Aegislash's overall bulk (60/150/140) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.

USUM Aegislash Best Moveset

AbilityStance Change shifts between Shield Forme at 150 Defense and 150 Sp. Def when using MoveKing's Shield, and Blade Forme at 150 Attack and 150 Sp. Atk when attacking. Steel/Ghost TermStab resists nine types. MoveKing's Shield also drops the attacker's Attack on contact. The moveset holds S-tier through the ability to alternate between the format's strongest defensive and offensive stats on command.

Moves List

Don't skip the egg moves. Aegislash picks up Destiny Bond and Metal Sound only through breeding, and both fill gaps the natural movepool can't. STAB runs through Iron Head and Flash Cannon while coverage across 7 types adds range.

Aegislash Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon Guide

  • In Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, Don't let Aegislash's 610 base stat total fool you. Stance Change is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it A-Tier as a wallbreaker. Kingsshield with Leftovers is the standard set.

  • In Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, watch for Arcanine (Fire), Excadrill (Ground), and Chandelure (Ghost) when using Aegislash. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Dark-type attackers are also a problem. Aegislash has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.

  • In Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, Run Stance Change on Aegislash. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. On wall sets, Stance Change pairs with Aegislash's base 150 Defense to absorb physical hits on the switch.

  • In Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, Aegislash fills the wallbreaker role. It's a mixed attacker with base 150 Attack and 50 Sp. Atk. At base 60 Speed, it won't be moving first often. And it's tanky enough to absorb a few hits.

  • For Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, Aegislash has answers, but so do you. Status moves (Toxic, Will-O-Wisp) wear it down. Setup sweepers can use it as a boost opportunity. Special attackers bypass its physical bulk.

Game Availability

Introduced in X & Y, Aegislash has appeared in 6 games across 5 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
