Ghost Type Weakness
Ghost type weakness: Ghost and Dark moves deal 2× damage to the Ghost type, and it takes no damage from Normal and Fighting attacks. Sableye and Spiritomb (Ghost/Dark) had no weakness at all until Fairy arrived in X & Y. Fairy is still the only type that hits them for 2×.
What is Ghost type weak to?
This is the chart every game has used since X & Y (Gen 6). What was different in older games is at the bottom of the page.

Ghost type rules beyond the chart
Battle effects tied to the Ghost type, and what was different in older games.
Beyond the chart
- Can’t be trappedFrom Gen 6, Ghost types can always switch out, ignoring Mean Look, Block, Shadow Tag and Arena Trap.
- Ways through the immunityScrappy, Mind’s Eye, Foresight, Odor Sleuth and a held Ring Target let Normal and Fighting attacks hit a Ghost type.
- Ghost CurseWhen a Ghost type uses Curse, it pays half its max HP once, and the target loses a quarter of its max HP at the end of every turn, starting that turn.
How Ghost changed across generations
- GEN2Gold & SilverGhost moves now hit Psychic for 2×. In Gen 1 they had no effect.
- GEN4Diamond & PearlSince Gen 4, each Ghost move is physical or special based on the move itself. Before that, every Ghost move was physical.
- GEN6X & YGhost moves now hit Steel for normal damage. Steel resisted them before Gen 6.
