Is Wobbuffet Good in Gold & Silver Playthrough?
Dark Cave in Johto. Wobbuffet can't attack normally. It only knows MoveCounter and MoveMirror Coat, which reflect damage back at the opponent. Interesting gimmick, terrible for a playthrough. You can't control what type of attack the opponent uses, so it's a coin flip every turn.

Gold & Silver Wobbuffet Locations
Just two wild Wobbuffet at one spot, uncommon, in the low-to-mid twenties. A single location with thin odds, so landing one comes down to pacing the right cave until it finally turns up.

How to Get Shiny Wobbuffet in Gold & Silver
Wobbuffet has just one home in Gold and Silver, Dark Cave, and it offers no better luck than any patch of wild grass would. Compare Shiny Wobbuffet odds across every game
Shiny Wobbuffet Evolution
Does Not EvolveGold & Silver Shiny Wobbuffet Calculator
2 MethodsThe best route is Breed w/ Shiny Parent, about 1 in 64 on each try.
Full Odds: Walk through grass, surf, or fish. Every encounter is its own independent shiny roll.
Breed w/ Shiny Parent: Eggs inherit stats from a shiny parent, so about 1 in 64 hatch shiny. A shiny Ditto helps every egg, and any other shiny parent (the red Gyarados works) helps only eggs of the opposite gender.
How many you have done, or plan to do.
| Chance | Encounters | Time |
|---|---|---|
| 10%lucky few | 7-- | -- |
| 25%one in four | 19-- | -- |
| 50%coin flip | 45-- | -- |
| 90%very likely | 147-- | -- |
Time assumes -- at your pace and does not change your shiny odds.
How is this calculated?
Every encounter has the same shiny chance, the Shiny Odds Per Try shown above. Each one is a separate roll that does not care how many you have already done, so the more you hunt, the higher your overall chance of at least one shiny. The formula below turns your odds and your number of tries into that combined chance.
chance after N tries = 1 − (1 − p)^N, where p = 1 / odds per try
Example at 1 in 8,192 (classic full odds): about 864 encounters for a 10 percent chance, 5,678 for 50 percent, and 18,862 for 90 percent.
The table above flips that around: it shows how many encounters it takes to reach a 10, 25, 50, and 90 percent chance at your current odds. Turning on boosts like the Shiny Charm, sandwiches, or chains improves your odds, so the encounter numbers drop.
These are estimates, not promises. Most games have no pity counter, meaning no guaranteed shiny no matter how many you hunt, so even Very Likely is not guaranteed: some hunters find one early, others go well past that point.

Wobbuffet Weakness
Type-wise, Wobbuffet takes extra damage from Bug, Ghost, and Dark. Wobbuffet's overall bulk (190/58/58) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Bug, Ghost, Dark |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fighting, Psychic |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
- Special stat split into Sp.Atk and Sp.Def

Wobbuffet Evolutions
Wobbuffet is what you get. No evolutions, but it breeds through one egg group with a small partner pool. Its eggs take an average time to hatch. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
GS Wobbuffet Best Moveset
MoveCounter reflects physical damage back at double power, and MoveMirror Coat does the same for special attacks. Shadow Tag prevents switching (as a mechanic, not an ability). Relies entirely on the opponent attacking into the right move. Held ItemLeftovers sustains the 190 HP. Reactive and matchup-dependent but devastating when it reads correctly.

Moves List
Not a lot to pick from. Wobbuffet gets Mirror Coat for same-type damage, and Fighting coverage rounds things out. You're building around what's available rather than choosing from a deep bench.

It hates light and shock. If attacked, it inflates its body to pump up its counterstrike.
To keep its pitch-black tail hidden, it lives quietly in the darkness. It is never first to attack.
Wobbuffet Gold & Silver Guide
Honestly, in Gold & Silver Wobbuffet is a tough sell. It rates just F-Tier, and stronger Psychic options exist. Fun pick, not a practical one.
In Gold & Silver, Wobbuffet plays as a support. It's slow, so Trick Room or priority moves are key. so pick your spots carefully.
Game Availability
Available in 16 titles since its debut in Gold & Silver, Wobbuffet spans 8 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through wild encounters in most mainline games.
