Is Sceptile Good in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Playthrough?

Fastest Grass-type available. Handles Wake, Bertha, and Volkner with Grass coverage. The Speed lets it outrun most gym leaders where Roserade can't. Pure Grass is a cleaner typing than Roserade's Grass/Poison for the E4 stretch.

BDSP Sceptile Best Moveset

Dropped from A-tier as 105 Sp. Atk at 120 Speed behind pure Grass TermStab couldn't compete with the format's dedicated special attackers. Hidden AbilityUnburden doubles the already-high Speed when an item is consumed. The moveset hits fast but C-tier because the power ceiling is too low and Grass typing alone limits coverage.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond / Pokemon Shining Pearl

Sceptile Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Guide

  • In Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Sceptile works as a sweeper with 530 BST behind it. B-Tier on our list: a solid option in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl for the right team. Leafblade with Life Orb is the standard set.

  • Mega Evolution isn't available in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, but Sceptile does have a Mega form in Gen 6-7 games (X/Y, ORAS, Sun/Moon). Mega Sceptile hits 630 BST.

  • In Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Sceptile's biggest threats include Blaziken (Fire), Lapras (Ice), and Nidoking (Poison), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Flying and Bug-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.

  • Overgrow is the go-to ability for Sceptile. It strengthens grass moves to inflict 1.5× damage at 1/3 max HP or less. Its hidden ability Unburden can work in specific setups.

  • Sceptile is a mixed attacker with base 85 Attack and 105 Sp. Atk. Enough bulk to take a hit or two, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 120 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. Fits the sweeper role.

Game Availability

Available since Ruby & Sapphire, Sceptile appears in 16 games spanning 8 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained a Mega form in Generation 6.
