Stats & Training
Everything pushes toward mixed damage here. Sceptile's Speed does the work, Defense pays the price. But you're still getting 3 Speed EVs per KO. Tough to catch, on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
In the jungle, its power is without equal. This POKéMON carefully grows trees and plants. It regulates its body temperature by basking in sunlight.
Sceptile Weakness
Type-wise, Sceptile takes extra damage from Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, and Bug. The Grass typing picks up 4 resistances to work with.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, Bug |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Water, Electric, Grass, Ground |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
In Emerald, Claydol can KO Sceptile with Explosion (97-115%). Cloyster's Explosion hits Sceptile for 78-92%. Regirock's Explosion also KOs at 126-148%.

Emerald Evolution
The three-stage chain from Treecko through Grovyle ends here at Sceptile. Want more? Breed for Treecko eggs. A decent partner pool available via two egg groups. The evolution from Treecko pushed Sceptile to 530 total stats. Speed saw the largest single gain at +50. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve

Breed with Sceptile to get Treecko eggs easily using 27 partners from the Dragon and Monster egg groups. Notable egg moves include Crunch, Crush Claw, Dragon Breath and 3 more.
Emerald Sceptile Best Moveset
Overgrow helps Sceptile stick around while dealing real damage. Leftovers for passive recovery each turn, max Sp. Atk and Speed EVs for the right balance, and Leafblade as the main threat. Not the fastest, but it doesn't need to be.

Stall teams hate this. Sceptile can spread damage across 10 types, with Normal and Bug punishing common defensive pivots. STAB from Solar Beam and Leaf Blade keeps the pressure honest on everything else.

How to Get Sceptile in Emerald
Sceptile doesn't appear wild. Catch Treecko instead, it shows up but it's a rare spawn. Evolve it at level 36 to get Sceptile. The 3-stage chain is mapped in the step cards below.
Sceptile Guide
In Emerald, Sceptile works as a sweeper with 530 BST behind it. B-Tier on our list: a solid option in Emerald for the right team. Leafblade with Leftovers is the standard set.
Mega Evolution isn't available in Emerald, but Sceptile does have a Mega form in Gen 6-7 games (X/Y, ORAS, Sun/Moon). Mega Sceptile hits 630 BST.
Overgrow is the go-to ability for Sceptile. It strengthens grass moves to inflict 1.5× damage at 1/3 max HP or less. Its hidden ability Unburden can work in specific setups.
Sceptile is a special attacker with base 105 Sp. Atk. Enough bulk to take a hit or two, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 120 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. Fits the sweeper role.
Game Availability
Available since Ruby & Sapphire, Sceptile appears in 16 games spanning 8 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained a Mega form in Generation 6.
