Is Mandibuzz Good in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon Playthrough?

Ultra Moon exclusive Dark/Flying with great defensive bulk. Kahili runs one on her E4 team. Dark immunity handles Acerola's Ghost attacks. Level 54 evolution means most players won't have it for the E4, but it's a top defensive pick for postgame.

Mandibuzz Weakness

Type-wise, Mandibuzz takes extra damage from Electric, Ice, Rock, and Fairy. Ground and Psychic moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. Mandibuzz's overall bulk (110/105/95) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.

It skillfully arranges the bones of its prey to construct its nest. Most of the bones are Cubone.

It’s always searching for food for Vullaby. When it finds a weak Pokémon, Mandibuzz swoops it right off to its nest.

Mandibuzz Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon Guide

  • In Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, Mandibuzz has a 510 base stat total and ranks as C-Tier: a niche pick in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon's meta. It works best as a support. Roost with Rocky Helmet is the standard set.

  • In Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, Mandibuzz's biggest threats include Manectric (Electric), Cloyster (Ice), and Tyranitar (Rock), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Fairy-type attackers are also a problem. Mandibuzz has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.

  • Big Pecks is the go-to ability for Mandibuzz. It protects against Defense drops. Its hidden ability Weak Armor can work in specific setups. Overcoat is the other option. Pick based on what your team needs.

  • In Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, Mandibuzz fills the support role. It's a physical attacker with base 65 Attack. Base 80 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. And it's tanky enough to absorb a few hits.

  • For Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, the core moveset is Roost, Defog, Foulplay, and Toxic. Roost leads at 0% usage. This set covers the support role with a mix of damage and utility.

Game Availability

Introduced in Black & White, Mandibuzz has appeared in 8 games across 6 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
