Without Levitate, Lunatone wouldn't see any competitive play. With it? It gives it a Ground immunity, turning modest base stats into a real offensive threat. Rock/Psychic is solid coverage on top of that. Needs some investment to avoid getting outsped.

Sp. Atk and HP carry most of Lunatone's stat budget. Attack's the obvious dump stat. Tough to catch and yields 2 Sp. Atk EVs. Follows a fast 800K XP curve.

Water, Grass, Ground, Bug, Ghost, Dark, and Steel-type moves hit Lunatone for super-effective damage. 5 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Levitate grants an additional Ground immunity, reshaping the matchup chart.

Prediction matters here. Choice Scarf means Lunatone can't change moves after clicking, but the payoff is speed patching through item lock. Max Sp. Atk and Speed EVs with Levitate back that up. The remaining moves prevents free switches.

  • Levitate changes the entire equation for Lunatone. The 460 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier.

  • Watch for Starmie (Water), Breloom (Grass), and Golem (Ground) when using Lunatone. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Bug, Ghost, Dark, and Steel-type attackers are also a problem. With 7 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.

  • Lunatone doesn't evolve and has no evolutionary line. It's a Rock/Psychic-type Pokemon with a 460 base stat total.

  • Levitate is what you want on Lunatone. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind.

  • Base 70 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Lunatone is a special attacker with base 95 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • Lunatone appears in 14 games, including Ruby & Sapphire, FireRed & LeafGreen, and Emerald.

Available in 14 titles since its debut in Ruby & Sapphire, Lunatone spans 7 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through wild encounters in a solid number of games.
