Stats & Training
The stat line revolves around HP. Percentage recovery gets extra mileage here. Special backs it up, though Speed doesn't pull its weight. Worth 2 HP stat exp on a slow 1.25M XP grind to max out.
A gentle soul that can read the minds of people. It can ferry people across the sea on its back.
Lapras Weakness
Lapras's Water/Ice typing leaves it vulnerable to Electric, Grass, Fighting, and Rock. Lapras's overall bulk (130/80/95) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Electric, Grass, Fighting, Rock |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Water |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Ice |
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split

The level-up pool is slim, so TMs matter here. Lapras's Normal and Dragon coverage and more all comes from technical machines, built on top of Hydro Pump and Blizzard for same-type damage. Ice Beam and Hydro Pump are the payoff moves.

Lapras Guide
In Yellow, Lapras brings 545 BST to the table. B-Tier on our list: a solid option in Yellow for the right team. Thunderbolt anchors the moveset.
Lapras is a special attacker with base 95 Special. Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. Speed tells the real story. At base 60 Speed, it won't be moving first often.
In Yellow, run Thunderbolt, Blizzard, Confuseray, and Sing on Lapras. Thunderbolt is the most common pick at 20% usage. Blizzard provides reliable STAB damage.
For Yellow, Lapras has answers, but so do you. Super-effective STAB from faster Pokemon is the simplest answer. Electric, Grass, and Fighting-type attackers hit hardest.
