Geodude sits at the start of its evolution line — not yet at full power, but that changes fast. Most trainers push through to Golem as fast as possible. Known as the Rock Pokemon. Built to hit on the physical side.

The stat bars tell the story: Defense carries everything and Speed's dead weight. But this Rock Pokemon still yields 1 Defense EV per fight on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.

Geodude Weakness

Fragile

Type-wise, Geodude takes extra damage from Water, Grass, Ice, Fighting, and Ground. Watch out for Water and Grass attacks, those deal 4x damage. Electric moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. The Rock/Ground typing picks up 5 resistances to work with. Geodude's physical bulk (base 100 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Gen I Type Chart
  • Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
  • Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
  • Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split

Abilities
Rock HeadProtects against recoil damage.
SturdyPrevents being KOed from full HP, leaving 1 HP instead. Protects against the one-hit KO moves regardless of HP.
Sand VeilHAIncreases evasion to 1.25× during a sandstorm. Protects against sandstorm damage.

Geodude starts a line toward Golem. Can't breed this Rock/Ground type (300 stats), so keep the evolution path going. Evolving adds up to 195 stat points total.

Nothing fancy here. Geodude builds around an item for extra utility, a nature nature for the right stat lean, and flexible EVs EVs. An ability does its job quietly.

Most of Geodude's flexibility comes from TMs. Same-type output runs through Earthquake and Dig, but Normal and Fighting and the rest of the TM pool push it from predictable to genuinely threatening.

  • At 300 BST, Geodude is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Graveler before bringing it to any serious fight.

  • Geodude's biggest threats include Gyarados (Water), Venusaur (Grass), and Lapras (Ice), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Gyarados is the most dangerous since Water moves deal 4x damage. Fighting and Ground-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter. At base 20 Speed, Geodude won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.

  • Geodude can evolve into Graveler and Alolan Graveler depending on the method. Geodude is the base form in a 5-stage evolutionary line.

  • Geodude is a physical attacker with base 80 Attack. But the speed tells the real story — base 20 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. Fits the trick room role.

  • Geodude appears in 20 games, including Yellow, Red & Blue, and Gold & Silver.

Available since Red & Blue, Geodude appears in 20 games spanning 9 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained an Alolan form in Generation 7.
