Geodude sits at the start of its evolution line — not yet at full power, but that changes fast. Most trainers push through to Golem as fast as possible. Known as the Rock Pokemon. Built to hit on the physical side.

The stat bars tell the story: Defense carries everything and Speed's dead weight. But this Rock Pokemon still yields 1 Defense EV per fight on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.

Its stone head is imbued with electricity and magnetism. If you carelessly step on one, you’ll be in for a painful shock.

Geodude Weakness

Fragile

Type-wise, Geodude takes extra damage from Water, Grass, Ice, Fighting, Ground, and Steel. Watch out for Water and Grass attacks, those deal 4x damage. Electric moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. The Rock/Ground typing picks up 5 resistances to work with. Geodude's physical bulk (base 100 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Nothing fancy here. Geodude builds around Figyberry for extra utility, Adamant nature for the right stat lean, and max HP and Attack EVs. Sturdy does its job quietly.

Best Build

Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee uses different battle mechanics.

Competitive build content is not applicable for this game. Select a main series game for builds.

The level-up pool tells the story here. Geodude learns Take Down and Self-Destruct naturally, plus enough variety that TMs feel like bonuses. Normal and Fighting coverage and more extends the reach beyond that.

CHALLENGING
  • At 300 BST, Geodude is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Graveler before bringing it to any serious fight.

  • Geodude's biggest threats include Gyarados (Water), Venusaur (Grass), and Lapras (Ice), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Gyarados is the most dangerous since Water moves deal 4x damage. Fighting, Ground, and Steel-type attackers are also a problem. With 6 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter. At base 20 Speed, Geodude won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.

  • Geodude can evolve into Graveler and Alolan Graveler depending on the method. Geodude is the base form in a 5-stage evolutionary line.

  • Rock Head is the go-to ability for Geodude. It protects against recoil damage. Its hidden ability Sand Veil can work in specific setups. Sturdy is the other option — pick based on what your team needs.

  • Geodude is a physical attacker with base 80 Attack. But the speed tells the real story — base 20 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. Fits the trick room role.

  • Geodude appears in 20 games, including Yellow, Red & Blue, and Gold & Silver.

Available since Red & Blue, Geodude appears in 20 games spanning 9 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained an Alolan form in Generation 7.
