Mid-stage Pokemon like Oddish rarely see competitive play outside of special formats. It's a waypoint on the road to Vileplume, which is where the real potential kicks in. Watch the Bug matchup though — quadruple damage means one hit can end it. Known as the Weed Pokemon.
Sp. Atk and Sp. Def carry most of Oddish's stat budget. Speed's the obvious dump stat. Easy to catch and yields 1 Sp. Atk EV. Follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
It may be mistaken for a clump of weeds. If you try to yank it out of the ground, it shrieks horribly.
Oddish Weakness
FragileOddish's Grass/Poison typing leaves it vulnerable to Bug, Fire, Ice, Flying, and Psychic moves. Bug hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. 4 resistances help offset the weaknesses.
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split
A Grass/Poison type with 320 stats, Oddish has a chain leading to Bellossom. Breeding won't work. The evolved forms gain up to 170 total stats over Oddish.

Level-up moves are just the starting point for Oddish. TMs unlock Normal coverage and turn a straightforward STAB kit around Petal Dance and Solar Beam into something with actual range.

Oddish is meant to evolve into Gloom. At 320 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.
Watch for Pinsir (Bug), Arcanine (Fire), and Lapras (Ice) when using Oddish. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Pinsir is the most dangerous since Bug moves deal 4x damage. Flying and Psychic-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter. At base 30 Speed, Oddish won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
Oddish evolves into Gloom at level 21. Oddish is the base form in a 4-stage evolutionary line.
Base 30 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. On offense, Oddish is a special attacker with base 75 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Fragile — can't afford to take many hits.
