How to Get Kecleon in FireRed & LeafGreen
Kecleon doesn't spawn in FRLG. In Hoenn, it's the invisible Pokemon you bump into on Routes 119 and 120 after using the Devon Scope. A trade from Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald delivers it.
Kecleon cannot be caught in the wild in FireRed & LeafGreen, but you can still get it via these paths:
Pokemon HOME · Switch Rerelease
Playing the Switch version of FireRed & LeafGreen? Pokemon HOME compatibility is post-launch but deposit-only by design (FRLG → HOME). Inbound HOME transfer of Kecleon into FRLG is not possible — an original GBA cartridge with a Link Cable is the only inbound route.
Catch in the wild and trade from these games:
Then trade to FireRed & LeafGreen.
Also Obtainable In:
Direct cartridge trade across generations isn't possible — but the Pokemon HOME path above bridges this gap once Switch support launches.
Kecleon Weakness
Kecleon is weak to Fighting. On the flip side, it's immune to Ghost-type moves entirely. Kecleon's special bulk (base 120 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Fighting |
| 0x (Immune) | Ghost |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move

How to Evolve

AbilityColor Change shifts typing to match the last move that hit it, creating unpredictable defensive matchups every turn. 120 Sp. Def provides solid special bulk. The moveset uses MoveShadow Ball and MoveReturn for physical coverage while the type-shifting ability forces opponents to track matchups constantly.

The TM pool is where it gets interesting. Coverage across 13 types means almost nothing walls Kecleon cleanly, with Double-Edge and Mega Kick anchoring the STAB side. Matchup flexibility isn't a problem.
