Stats & Training
Sp. Def leads and Speed gets almost nothing. That's Kecleon's stat line in a nutshell. 2 stats sit in respectable range, but the spread is brutal. Easy to catch and yields 1 Sp. Def EV.
A POKéMON that has the ability to alter its body colors to match its surroundings. A KECLEON reverts to its original colors if it is startled.
Kecleon Weakness
Kecleon is weak to Fighting. On the flip side, it's immune to Ghost-type moves entirely. Kecleon's special bulk (base 120 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.

Emerald Kecleon Best Moveset
Prediction matters here. Choice Band means Kecleon can't change moves after clicking, but the payoff is raw power at the cost of move flexibility. Max HP and Attack EVs with Colorchange back that up. Utility options prevents free switches.

The TM pool is where it gets interesting. Coverage across 14 types means almost nothing walls Kecleon cleanly, with Double-Edge and Mega Kick anchoring the STAB side. Matchup flexibility isn't a problem.

Emerald Kecleon Locations
Kecleon tops out at low spawn rates across 7 locations in mid-game routes. The encounters below are sorted by rate so you can see exactly what you're working with.
Best Locations to Catch Kecleon in Emerald
Catching Kecleon takes patience. The 7 walking and fixed encounters at Lv. 25-30 all have low spawn rates, so pick one location and stay put for the best odds.
Kecleon Guide
In Emerald, Kecleon's biggest threats include Hitmonlee (Fighting), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. At base 40 Speed, Kecleon won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
In Emerald, Kecleon can work for a story run. 440 BST is average, but Normal typing fills a niche depending on your team composition.
In Emerald, Protean changes the entire equation for Kecleon. The 440 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier as a trick room. Trick with Choice Band is the standard set.
Protean is what you want on Kecleon. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Color Change) work on paper but Protean is what makes Kecleon worth using.
Kecleon's best stat is Sp. Def at base 120. Normal typing is straightforward. Pure Normal type with same-type attack bonus on Normal moves.
