Defense leads and Speed gets almost nothing. That's Golem's stat line in a nutshell. 3 stats sit in respectable range, but the spread is brutal. Tough to catch and yields 3 Defense EVs.

It fires rocks charged with electricity. Even if the rock isn't fired that accurately, just grazing an opponent will cause numbness and fainting.

Golem is weak to Ground, Water, Grass, and Fighting. Watch out for Ground attacks, those deal 4x damage. 5 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Golem's physical bulk (base 130 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

For a hazard lead, Golem wants max Attack and Speed EVs and Custapberry. The Adamant nature tilts toward physical duty, and Sturdy contributes without taking a move slot.

Egg moves make a real difference. Golem gets Autotomize and Block exclusively through breeding, filling gaps that TMs and level-up can't touch. Coverage across 7 types rounds out the picture alongside Thunder and Stone Edge.

The chain to Alolan Golem requires a trade evolution through a trade. Catch Geodude at solid rates and level through the stages, but line up the trade first. The rest of the chain runs on levels alone.

    Step 3Golem
  • For Sun & Moon, we rate Golem C-Tier: a niche pick in Sun & Moon's meta. At 495 BST, it fits the wallbreaker role. Rock Blast with Custapberry is the standard set.

  • In Sun & Moon, Golem's biggest threats include Rhydon (Ground), Gyarados (Water), and Exeggutor (Grass), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Rhydon is the most dangerous since Ground moves deal 4x damage. Fighting-type attackers are also a problem.

  • Magnet Pull is the go-to ability for Golem. It prevents steel opponents from fleeing or switching out. Its hidden ability Galvanize can work in specific setups. Sturdy is the other option. Pick based on what your team needs.

  • Base 45 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. On offense, Golem is a physical attacker with base 120 Attack. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a wallbreaker.

  • For Sun & Moon, the core moveset is Rock Blast, Stealth Rock, Earthquake, and Explosion. Rock Blast leads at 25% usage. Earthquake provides reliable STAB damage.

Since debuting in Red & Blue, Golem has appeared in 20 titles over 10 generations. Along the way, it received an Alolan form in Generation 7, keeping it relevant across different competitive metas.
