Is Dragonite Good in Legends: Z-A Playthrough?
Mega Dragonite is brand new to Z-A and pushes the 600 BST pseudo-legendary even further. Dragon and Flying coverage handles most faction encounters neutrally, and the Mega form makes it one of the strongest Pokemon available. Arrives late after a long Dratini investment, but nothing else matches the raw output once it's on the field. Dominates the Team Flare Nouveau stretch and most late-game fights.

How to Get Shiny Dragonite in Legends: Z-A
Dragonite towers as a Wild Zone 20 overworld Alpha in the late game, so circle that zone and reload the spawn to keep rolling for a shiny. Compare Shiny Dragonite odds across every game
Legends: Z-A Shiny Dragonite Calculator
1 MethodThe only route here is Full Odds, about 1 in 1,024 on each try. Tune it below.
Full Odds: Walk through grass, surf, or fish. Every encounter is its own independent shiny roll.
How many you have done, or plan to do.
| Chance | Encounters |
|---|---|
| 10%lucky few | 108 |
| 25%one in four | 295 |
| 50%coin flip | 710 |
| 90%very likely | 2,357 |
How is this calculated?
Every encounter has the same shiny chance, the Shiny Odds Per Try shown above. Each one is a separate roll that does not care how many you have already done, so the more you hunt, the higher your overall chance of at least one shiny. The formula below turns your odds and your number of tries into that combined chance.
chance after N tries = 1 − (1 − p)^N, where p = 1 / odds per try
Example at 1 in 8,192 (classic full odds): about 864 encounters for a 10 percent chance, 5,678 for 50 percent, and 18,862 for 90 percent.
The table above flips that around: it shows how many encounters it takes to reach a 10, 25, 50, and 90 percent chance at your current odds. Turning on boosts like the Shiny Charm, sandwiches, or chains improves your odds, so the encounter numbers drop.
These are estimates, not promises. Most games have no pity counter, meaning no guaranteed shiny no matter how many you hunt, so even Very Likely is not guaranteed: some hunters find one early, others go well past that point.
For time estimates and charm math, open the Legends: Z-A shiny odds calculator with Dragonite already selected.
Dragonite Weakness
Ice, Rock, Dragon, and Fairy moves hit Dragonite for super-effective damage. Ice hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. The upside? Ground-type moves can't touch it at all. The Dragon/Flying typing picks up 5 resistances to work with. Dragonite's overall bulk (91/95/100) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Ice |
| 2x (Weak) | Rock, Dragon, Fairy |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Water, Fighting, Bug |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Grass |
| 0x (Immune) | Ground |
