While most trainers evolve Chansey into Blissey immediately, the unevolved form has a niche with Eviolite boosting its defenses. Ghost moves can't touch it, and only a single type hits it super-effectively. Known as the Egg Pokemon.
The stat line revolves around HP. Percentage recovery gets extra mileage here. Sp. Def backs it up, though Attack doesn't pull its weight. Worth 2 HP EVs on a fast 800K XP curve to max out.
It walks carefully to prevent its egg from breaking. However, it is extremely fast at running away.
Few in number and difficult to capture, it is said to bring happiness to the trainer who catches it.
Chansey Weakness
GoodFighting-type moves hit Chansey for super-effective damage. The upside? Ghost-type moves can't touch it at all. Chansey's special bulk (base 105 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
- Special stat split into Sp.Atk and Sp.Def
Chansey connects Happiny to Blissey in this chain. At least one evolution here needs a special method. So far, HP got the biggest boost (+150 from Happiny). The final form adds another 90 stats on top.
How to Evolve
Breed with Chansey to get Happiny eggs (with patience) using 16 partners from the Fairy egg group. Notable egg moves include Heal Bell, Metronome, Present.
The recommended build leans into Chansey's strengths as an attacker. Luckypunch provides extra utility, and flexible EVs EVs back that up. An ability rounds out the package.

Finding Chansey at moderate rates takes patience. 6 spots are available in mid-game routes, but the rate difference between them matters. Lock in the top one from the sorted list below.
Best Locations
Chansey's encounter pool splits between Gold and Silver. You've got 6 walking spots at Lv. 25+ total, but your version determines which ones actually show up.
At 450 BST, Chansey is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Blissey before bringing it to any serious fight.
Watch for Hitmonlee (Fighting) when using Chansey. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. Chansey has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.
Chansey is a physical attacker with base 5 Attack. Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. But the speed tells the real story — base 50 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. Fits the wall role.
