While most trainers evolve Chansey into Blissey immediately, the unevolved form has a niche with Eviolite boosting its defenses. Ghost moves can't touch it, and only a single type hits it super-effectively. Known as the Egg Pokemon.
The stat line revolves around HP. Percentage recovery gets extra mileage here. Sp. Def backs it up, though Attack doesn't pull its weight. Worth 2 HP EVs on a fast 800K XP curve to max out.
A gentle and kindhearted POKéMON that shares its nutritious eggs if it sees an injured POKéMON.
Chansey Weakness
GoodFighting-type moves hit Chansey for super-effective damage. The upside? Ghost-type moves can't touch it at all. Chansey's special bulk (base 105 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split
Partway through Happiny's chain, Chansey is a Normal type pushing toward Blissey. No breeding at this stage. So far, HP got the biggest boost (+150 from Happiny). The final form adds another 90 stats on top.
How to Evolve
The recommended build leans into Chansey's strengths as an attacker. An item provides extra utility, and flexible EVs EVs back that up. An ability rounds out the package.

Recommended Teammates
The level-up pool is slim, so TMs matter here. Chansey's coverage across 7 types all comes from technical machines, built on top of Hyper Beam and Skull Bash for same-type damage. Double-Edge and Blizzard are the payoff moves.

Chansey isn't a quick catch. 3 walking encounters from Lv. 7-56 with slim rates across the board. Commit to one spot instead of jumping between areas.
At 450 BST, Chansey is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Blissey before bringing it to any serious fight.
Watch for Hitmonlee (Fighting) when using Chansey. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. Chansey has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.
Chansey is a special attacker with base 35 Sp. Atk. Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. But the speed tells the real story — base 50 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. Fits the wall role.
