Stats & Training

The stat line revolves around HP. Percentage recovery gets extra mileage here. Sp. Def backs it up, though Attack doesn't pull its weight. Worth 2 HP stat exp on a fast 800K XP curve to max out.

Crystal

Chansey Weakness

Fighting moves hit Chansey for super-effective damage. The upside? Ghost-type moves can't touch it at all. Chansey's special bulk (base 105 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.

Chansey Guide

  • At 450 BST, Chansey is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Blissey before bringing it to any serious fight.

  • In Crystal, watch for Hitmonlee (Fighting) when using Chansey. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. Chansey has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.

  • In Crystal, Happiny evolves into Chansey using a Oval Stone. Chansey evolves into Blissey by leveling up. Chansey is a middle-stage evolution in the Happiny line.

  • Chansey is a physical attacker with base 5 Attack. Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 50 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. Fits the wall role.

  • In Crystal, For a casual playthrough, Chansey works as a placeholder. Normal coverage is useful early. The real payoff is Blissey. That's where the stats start mattering.

Game Availability

Present since Red & Blue, Chansey appears in 21 games spanning 10 generations. Gen 1 originals like Chansey have the longest track record of availability in the series.
