Stats & Training
The stat line revolves around HP. Percentage recovery gets extra mileage here. Sp. Def backs it up, though Attack doesn't pull its weight. Worth 2 HP stat exp on a fast 800K XP curve to max out.
People try to catch it for its extremely nutritious eggs, but it rarely can be found.
Chansey Weakness
Fighting moves hit Chansey for super-effective damage. The upside? Ghost-type moves can't touch it at all. Chansey's special bulk (base 105 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Fighting |
| 0x (Immune) | Ghost |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
- Special stat split into Sp.Atk and Sp.Def

Chansey Guide
At 450 BST, Chansey is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Blissey before bringing it to any serious fight.
In Crystal, watch for Hitmonlee (Fighting) when using Chansey. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. Chansey has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.
Chansey is a physical attacker with base 5 Attack. Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 50 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. Fits the wall role.
In Crystal, For a casual playthrough, Chansey works as a placeholder. Normal coverage is useful early. The real payoff is Blissey. That's where the stats start mattering.
