Beedrill Best Moveset
Held ItemBeedrillite turns 90 Attack into 150 with AbilityAdaptability doubling TermStab bonus to 2x instead of 1.5x. 145 Speed fires Bug and Poison moves on the shortest cooldowns in the format. The moveset is pure burst damage, cycling back to base form to refill the Mega meter.
Bug-types were the worst in Gen I (Red & Blue). Beedrill's 90 Attack had no Bug STAB worth using, and 395 BST competed with nothing.
Utility Moveset
- Swords Dance
- Twineedle
- Hyper Beam
- Agility
Recommended Teammates
Slightly higher in Gen II (Gold & Silver), but the same core problem. Bug/Poison offense hit almost nothing super-effectively. Twineedle was the best Bug move available.
Utility Moveset
- Sludge Bomb
- Swords Dance
- Substitute
- Hidden Power Ground
Recommended Teammates
Swarm boosted Bug moves below 33% HP in Gen III (Ruby & Sapphire). That meant Beedrill was about to faint. The ability rewarded losing.
Physical Sweeper Moveset
- Sludge Bomb
- Brick Break
- Hidden Power Bug
- Baton Pass
Recommended Teammates
Physical/Special split gave Beedrill actual Poison Jab in Gen IV (Diamond & Pearl). First gen with real STAB options. Swords Dance sets had a narrow window.
Best Moves
Best Build
Beedrill best EVs are HP and Speed
Pivot Moveset
- Toxic Spikes
- U Turn
- X Scissor
- Endeavor
Recommended Teammates
75 Speed wasn't fast enough in Gen V (Black & White). 40 Defense folded to any priority move. Beedrill hit moderately hard and fainted moderately fast.
Physical Sweeper Moveset
- Drill Run
- Poison Jab
- Endeavor
- Brick Break
Recommended Teammates
Mega Beedrill debuted in Gen VI (X & Y) with 150 Attack and Adaptability. The Mega was terrifying. Base Beedrill watched from the bottom, unchanged.
Utility Moveset
- Drill Run
- Acrobatics
- Protect
- Double Edge
Recommended Teammates
Same split in Gen VII (Sun & Moon). Mega Beedrill competed at higher tiers while the base form sat stuck. Without the Mega Stone, 90 Attack didn't cut it.
Bulky Support Moveset
- Poison Jab
- Drill Run
- Twineedle
- Toxic
Recommended Teammates
Beedrill Weakness
Beedrill's Bug/Poison typing leaves it vulnerable to Fire, Flying, Psychic, and Rock. It resists 5 types, giving it decent defensive coverage. Beedrill's special bulk (base 80 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Fire, Flying, Psychic, Rock |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Poison, Bug, Fairy |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Grass, Fighting |

Beedrill Guide
Don't let Beedrill's 495 base stat total fool you. Adaptability is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it B-Tier as a sweeper.
Yes. Mega Beedrill hits 595 BST, a solid jump from the base 495. Hold the Mega Stone, trigger it in battle, and it lasts the whole fight. One Mega per team.
Run Adaptability on Beedrill. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. With base 145 Speed, Adaptability gives Beedrill an edge before opponents can react.
