Sharpedo punches above its weight class thanks to Speed Boost. It raises its Speed every turn it stays in, which is enough to make up for stats that don't impress on their own. Psychic moves can't touch it, which offsets the 4 weaknesses somewhat.

Attack leads and Defense gets almost nothing. That's Sharpedo's stat line in a nutshell. 3 stats sit in respectable range, but the spread is brutal. Moderately hard to find and yields 2 Attack EVs.

The ruffian of the seas, it has fangs that crunch through iron. It swims by jetting water from its rear.

Sharpedo Weakness

Good

Sharpedo's Water/Dark typing leaves it vulnerable to Electric, Grass, Fighting, and Bug moves. It shrugs off Psychic-type attacks completely. With 6 resistances, the defensive profile is strong. Sharpedo leans offensive (base 120 Atk) rather than trying to tank its weaknesses.

Rough Skin isn't flashy, but it matters. Combined with Mysticwater for extra utility and max Sp. Atk and Speed EVs, Sharpedo fills the attacker slot reliably. Hasty nature finishes the spread.

Sharpedo isn't available in the wild in FireRed & LeafGreen. Start by transferring Carvanha from Ruby, Emerald, or Ultra Sun. The evolution path from Carvanha to Sharpedo is covered in the steps below.

How to Obtain Sharpedo in FireRed & LeafGreen

Then trade to FireRed & LeafGreen to continue the evolution chain.

  • Speed Boost changes the entire equation for Sharpedo. The 460 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier as a cannon.

  • Watch for Raikou (Electric), Breloom (Grass), and Machamp (Fighting) when using Sharpedo. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Bug-type attackers are also a problem.

  • Carvanha evolves into Sharpedo at level 30. Sharpedo is the fully evolved form. It sits at 460 BST in its evolved form.

  • Speed Boost is what you want on Sharpedo. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Rough Skin) work on paper but Speed Boost is what makes Sharpedo worth using.

  • Base 95 Speed is workable — faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Sharpedo is a mixed attacker — base 120 Attack and 95 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Fragile — can't afford to take many hits. Best used as a cannon.

  • Sharpedo appears in 15 games, including Ruby & Sapphire, FireRed & LeafGreen, and Emerald.

Since debuting in Ruby & Sapphire, Sharpedo has appeared in 15 titles over 7 generations. Along the way, it received a Mega form in Generation 7, keeping it relevant across different competitive metas.
