Mid-stage Pokemon like Quilladin rarely see competitive play outside of special formats. It's a waypoint on the road to Chesnaught, which is where the real potential kicks in. Been around since Gen 6. Relies on priority moves or Scarf to keep up.

Quilladin's spread isn't flashy. Defense leads, Sp. Atk trails, 1 stats clear the bar. Tough to catch and worth 2 Defense EVs, on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.

Quilladin Weakness

Fragile

Quilladin's Grass typing leaves it vulnerable to Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, and Bug moves. It resists 4 types, giving it decent defensive coverage. Quilladin's physical bulk (base 95 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Spikes is the priority every time Quilladin comes in. Impish nature and max HP and Defense EVs keep it alive long enough to get layers down, while Eviolite provides a bulk boost that only works before full evolution. Bulletproof rounds it out. Synthesis keeps it healthy between hits.

Quilladin isn't available in the wild in Scarlet & Violet. Start by transferring Chespin from X. The evolution path from Chespin to Quilladin is covered in the steps below.

How to Obtain Quilladin in Scarlet & Violet

  1. Chespin
    Step 1Obtain Chespin

  2. Quilladin
    Step 2Quilladin
  • Quilladin isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Chesnaught to unlock its full potential. At 405 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.

  • Watch for Arcanine (Fire), Walrein (Ice), and Nidoking (Poison) when using Quilladin. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Flying and Bug-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.

  • Chespin evolves into Quilladin at level 16. Quilladin evolves into Chesnaught at level 36. Quilladin is a middle-stage evolution in the Chespin line.

  • Overgrow strengthens grass moves to inflict 1.5× damage at 1/3 max HP or less — that's the one you want on Quilladin. Bulletproof is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.

  • Quilladin fills the hazard setter role. It's leaning toward the physical side (base 78 Attack). At base 57 Speed, it won't be moving first often. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • Quilladin appears in 6 games, including X & Y, Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, and Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon.

Introduced in X & Y, Quilladin has appeared in 6 games across 4 generations. Later debuts mean fewer total appearances, but it's been a consistent presence since its introduction.
