Stats & Training
An unusually even spread gives Mew flexibility. HP barely edges ahead. But any other stat isn't far off. Tough to catch and follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve. Yields 3 HP stat exp.
Apparently, it appears only to those people who are pure of heart and have a strong desire to see it.
Its DNA is said to contain the genetic codes of all POKéMON, so it can use all kinds of techniques.
Mew Weakness
Mew's Psychic typing leaves it vulnerable to Bug, Ghost, and Dark. Mew's overall bulk (100/100/100) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Bug, Ghost, Dark |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fighting, Psychic |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
- Special stat split into Sp.Atk and Sp.Def
In Gold & Silver, Forretress's Explosion hits Mew for 48-57%.

Moves
Breadth over depth defines this movepool. Mew won't stack one type's damage ceiling, but coverage across 16 types means it always has an effective option. Dream Eater and Psychic anchor the STAB core.

How to Get Mew in Gold & Silver
No wild encounters for Mew in Gold & Silver. It's available in Emerald and can be transferred over. The details below show where to find it.
Mew Guide
For the Gold & Silver meta, At 600 BST, Mew is built different. We rank it A-Tier. As a Mythical Pokemon, the raw stats back up the reputation. Best used as a sweeper.
Base 100 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. On offense, Mew is a special attacker with base 100 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Tanky enough to absorb a few hits. Best used as a sweeper.
For Gold & Silver, Mew has answers, but so do you. Priority moves (Mach Punch, Aqua Jet, Ice Shard) bypass its speed. Bulky walls that resist its STAB also shut it down.
In Gold & Silver, Mew is a Mythical encounter. Story-locked or postgame, depending on the version. See the Locations section for where to find it. It also appears in 19 other games across the series.
Game Availability
Mew first appeared in Red & Blue and has been available in 20 titles. Mythical distribution means event-only access in most games, making it one of the harder Pokemon to collect.
