Everything about Mew's stat line is built to win. 100 base HP leads the way, and even its worst stat (100 HP) isn't a real liability. Only weak to Bug, Ghost, and Dark. An original Gen 1 pick.

An unusually even spread gives Mew flexibility. HP barely edges ahead. But any other stat isn't far off. Tough to catch and follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve. Yields 3 HP EVs.

A POKéMON of South America that was thought to have been extinct. It is very intelligent and learns any move.

Fire Red

So rare that it is still said to be a mirage by many experts. Only a few people have seen it worldwide.

Leaf Green

Mew Weakness

Vulnerable

Mew's Psychic typing leaves it vulnerable to Bug, Ghost, and Dark moves. Mew's overall bulk (100/100/100) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.

Breadth over depth defines this movepool. Mew won't stack one type's damage ceiling, but coverage across 15 types means it always has an effective option. Dream Eater and Psychic anchor the STAB core.

Mew can't be caught in FireRed & LeafGreen. Bring it over from Emerald instead. The encounter info below covers the source games.

Mew is not available as a wild encounter in this game.

Special encounter in:

Then trade to FireRed & LeafGreen.

  • At 600 BST, Mew is built different. We rank it A-Tier. As a Mythical Pokemon, the raw stats back up the reputation. Best used as a sweeper.

  • Watch for Pinsir (Bug), Gengar (Ghost), and Houndoom (Dark) when using Mew. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Mew has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.

  • Mew doesn't evolve. As a Mythical Pokemon, it stands on its own without an evolutionary line. It's a Psychic type with 600 BST.

  • Synchronize copies burns, paralysis, and poison received onto the Pokémon that inflicted them — that's the one you want on Mew. It's the only ability Mew has.

  • Base 100 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. On offense, Mew is a mixed attacker — base 100 Attack and 100 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Tanky enough to absorb a few hits. Best used as a sweeper.

  • Mew appears in 20 games, including Yellow, Red & Blue, and Gold & Silver.

Mew first appeared in Red & Blue and has been available in 20 titles. Mythical distribution means event-only access in most games, making it one of the harder Pokemon to collect.
