Everything about Mew's stat line is built to win. 100 base HP leads the way, and even its worst stat (100 HP) isn't a real liability. Only weak to Bug, Ghost, and Dark. An original Gen 1 pick.

An unusually even spread gives Mew flexibility. HP barely edges ahead. But any other stat isn't far off. Tough to catch and follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve. Yields 3 HP EVs.

Because it can use all kinds of moves, many scientists believe Mew to be the ancestor of Pokémon.

Mew Weakness

Vulnerable

Mew's Psychic typing leaves it vulnerable to Bug, Ghost, and Dark moves. Mew's overall bulk (100/100/100) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.

SynchronizeCopies burns, paralysis, and poison received onto the Pokémon that inflicted them.

A Psychic-type mythical at 600 base stats, Mew can't breed or evolve. Event distribution is the standard way to obtain one.

Synchronize isn't flashy, but it matters. Combined with Mental Herb for one-time Taunt or Encore immunity and max HP and Speed EVs, Mew fills the hazard lead slot reliably. Jolly nature finishes the spread.

Breadth over depth defines this movepool. Mew won't stack one type's damage ceiling, but coverage across 17 types means it always has an effective option. Dream Eater and Psychic anchor the STAB core.

Egg Moves

Mew doesn't have any Egg moves

Tutor Moves

Mew can't learn any Tutor moves

Mew can't be caught in Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl. Bring it over from Emerald instead. The encounter info below covers the source games.

Mew is not available as a wild encounter in this game.

Also found in:

  • At 600 BST, Mew is built different. We rank it A-Tier. As a Mythical Pokemon, the raw stats back up the reputation. Best used as a hazard setter.

  • Watch for Pinsir (Bug), Gengar (Ghost), and Houndoom (Dark) when using Mew. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Mew has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.

  • Mew doesn't evolve. As a Mythical Pokemon, it stands on its own without an evolutionary line. It's a Psychic type with 600 BST.

  • Synchronize copies burns, paralysis, and poison received onto the Pokémon that inflicted them — that's the one you want on Mew. It's the only ability Mew has.

  • Base 100 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. On offense, Mew is leaning toward the physical side (base 100 Attack). Defensively? Tanky enough to absorb a few hits. Best used as a hazard setter.

  • Mew appears in 20 games, including Yellow, Red & Blue, and Gold & Silver.

Mew first appeared in Red & Blue and has been available in 20 titles. Mythical distribution means event-only access in most games, making it one of the harder Pokemon to collect.
