Stats & Training

An unusually even spread gives Mew flexibility. HP barely edges ahead. But any other stat isn't far off. Tough to catch and follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve. Yields 3 HP stat exp.

Because it can learn any move, some people began research to see if it is the ancestor of all POKéMON.

Crystal

Mew Weakness

Mew's Psychic typing leaves it vulnerable to Bug, Ghost, and Dark. Mew's overall bulk (100/100/100) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.

Moves

Breadth over depth defines this movepool. Mew won't stack one type's damage ceiling, but coverage across 16 types means it always has an effective option. Dream Eater and Psychic anchor the STAB core.

How to Get Mew in Crystal

Mew can't be caught in Crystal. Bring it over from Emerald instead. The encounter info below covers the source games.

Mew is not available as a wild encounter in this game.

Mew Guide

  • For the Crystal meta, At 600 BST, Mew is built different. We rank it A-Tier. As a Mythical Pokemon, the raw stats back up the reputation. Best used as a sweeper.

  • In Crystal, watch for Pinsir (Bug), Gengar (Ghost), and Houndoom (Dark) when using Mew. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Mew has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.

  • Base 100 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. On offense, Mew is a special attacker with base 100 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Tanky enough to absorb a few hits. Best used as a sweeper.

  • For Crystal, Mew has answers, but so do you. Priority moves (Mach Punch, Aqua Jet, Ice Shard) bypass its speed. Bulky walls that resist its STAB also shut it down.

  • In Crystal, Mew is a Mythical encounter. Story-locked or postgame, depending on the version. See the Locations section for where to find it. It also appears in 19 other games across the series.

Game Availability

Mew first appeared in Red & Blue and has been available in 20 titles. Mythical distribution means event-only access in most games, making it one of the harder Pokemon to collect.
