Stats & Training
Mewtwo's built around special offense. Sp. Atk leads the charge, Defense pays for it. Near-impossible to catch, worth 3 Sp. Atk stat exp. Follows a slow 1.25M XP grind.
Because its battle abilities were raised to the ultimate level, it thinks only of defeating its foes.
It usually remains motionless to conserve energy, so that it may unleash its full power in battle.
Mewtwo Weakness
Type-wise, Mewtwo takes extra damage from Bug, Ghost, and Dark. Mewtwo's overall bulk (106/90/90) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Bug, Ghost, Dark |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fighting, Psychic |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
- Special stat split into Sp.Atk and Sp.Def
In Gold & Silver, Gengar's Explosion hits Mewtwo for 39-46%. Forretress's Explosion hits Mewtwo for 51-60%.

How to Get Mewtwo in Gold & Silver
Mewtwo Guide
In Gold & Silver, Mewtwo is a Legendary Pokemon rated S-Tier. At 680 BST, it hits hard. It excels as a sweeper. Base 154 Sp. Atk is where it shines.
Mega Evolution isn't available in Gold & Silver, but Mewtwo does have a Mega form in Gen 6-7 games (X/Y, ORAS, Sun/Moon). Mega Mewtwo hits 780 BST.
In Gold & Silver, Mewtwo's biggest threats include Scyther (Bug), Misdreavus (Ghost), and Tyranitar (Dark), all carrying super-effective STAB moves.
In Gold & Silver, Mewtwo fills the sweeper role. It's a special attacker with base 154 Sp. Atk. Base 130 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's tanky enough to absorb a few hits.
In Gold & Silver, the best way to handle Mewtwo: Priority moves (Mach Punch, Aqua Jet, Ice Shard) bypass its speed. Bulky walls that resist its STAB also shut it down.
Game Availability
Mewtwo has appeared in 21 games since Red & Blue, spanning 10 generations. As a Legendary, it's typically a one-per-save encounter tied to the story or post-game content.
