Stats & Training
Mewtwo's spread isn't flashy. Special leads, Defense trails, 6 stats clear the bar. Near-impossible to catch and worth 3 Special stat exp, on a slow 1.25M XP grind.
Its DNA is almost the same as MEW’s. However, its size and disposition are vastly different.
Mewtwo Weakness
Mewtwo has no type weaknesses thanks to its unique defensive typing. Ghost moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fighting, Psychic |
| 0x (Immune) | Ghost |
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split
Yellow Evolution
No breeding, no evolution. Mewtwo is a Psychic legendary with 744 base stat total that you obtain once and build around. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.

Moves
TMs define Mewtwo's movepool. The natural moves cover basics with Psychic and Confusion, but the real versatility comes from technical machines giving it coverage across 7 types. That's where the options open up.

Mewtwo Guide
In Yellow, Mewtwo is a Legendary Pokemon rated S-Tier. At 744 BST, it hits hard. It excels as a sweeper. Base 154 Special is where it shines.
Mega Evolution isn't available in Yellow, but Mewtwo does have a Mega form in Gen 6-7 games (X/Y, ORAS, Sun/Moon). Mega Mewtwo hits 844 BST.
Mewtwo has no type weaknesses, making it hard to counter through typing alone. Focus on status moves, entry hazards, or raw neutral damage to take it down.
In Yellow, Mewtwo fills the sweeper role. It's a special attacker with base 154 Special. Base 130 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's tanky enough to absorb a few hits.
In Yellow, the best way to handle Mewtwo: Priority moves (Mach Punch, Aqua Jet, Ice Shard) bypass its speed. Bulky walls that resist its STAB also shut it down.
Game Availability
Mewtwo has appeared in 21 games since Red & Blue, spanning 10 generations. As a Legendary, it's typically a one-per-save encounter tied to the story or post-game content.
