Marshtomp Weakness

Marshtomp's Water/Ground typing leaves it vulnerable to Grass. Grass hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. It shrugs off Electric-type attacks completely. 4 resistances help offset the weaknesses.

Marshtomp Guide

  • Marshtomp is meant to evolve into Swampert. At 405 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.

  • In Sword & Shield, watch for Exeggutor (Grass) when using Marshtomp. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Exeggutor is the most dangerous since Grass moves deal 4x damage. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • In Sword & Shield, Mudkip evolves into Marshtomp at level 16. Marshtomp evolves into Swampert at level 36. Marshtomp is a middle-stage evolution in the Mudkip line.

  • Torrent strengthens water moves to inflict 1.5× damage at 1/3 max HP or less. That's the one you want on Marshtomp. Damp is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.

  • Base 50 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. On offense, Marshtomp is a physical attacker with base 85 Attack. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two.

Game Availability

Available in 16 titles since its debut in Ruby & Sapphire, Marshtomp spans 8 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through catching or hatching as a base form in most mainline games.
