Stats & Training
Attack and HP carry most of Marshtomp's stat budget. Speed's the obvious dump stat. Tough to catch and yields 2 Attack EVs. Follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
Its sturdy legs give it sure footing, even in mud. It burrows into dirt to sleep.

Marshtomp Weakness
Marshtomp's Water/Ground typing leaves it vulnerable to Grass. Grass hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. It shrugs off Electric-type attacks completely. 4 resistances help offset the weaknesses.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Grass |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Poison, Rock, Steel |
| 0x (Immune) | Electric |
In Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Zarude's Close Combat hits Marshtomp for 59-70%. Rillaboom threatens a KO with Wood Hammer (401-472%).

Marshtomp Guide
Marshtomp is meant to evolve into Swampert. At 405 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.
Torrent strengthens water moves to inflict 1.5× damage at 1/3 max HP or less. That's the one you want on Marshtomp. Damp is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.
Base 50 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. On offense, Marshtomp is a physical attacker with base 85 Attack. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two.
Game Availability
Available in 16 titles since its debut in Ruby & Sapphire, Marshtomp spans 8 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through catching or hatching as a base form in most mainline games.
