How to Evolve
Bulk and offense in one package. Hitmontop runs Heavy-Duty Boots for hazard immunity on every switch-in with a Adamant nature, so it survives long enough to threaten with Rapid Spin. Max HP and Attack EVs and the remaining moves make it hard to safely switch into.

Without TMs, Hitmontop's movepool is bare bones. With them, you get coverage across 7 types on top of Close Combat and Focus Blast for STAB. The natural kit handles basics, but TMs are doing the real work.

Step 2Hitmontop ✓Lake of OutrageShieldOverworld Lv.55-58 Water2%PostOvercastLake of OutrageSwordOverworld Lv.55-58 Water2%PostOvercastor evolve from Tyrogue (Step 1)
Hitmontop isn't available in the wild in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon. Start by transferring Tyrogue from Gold, Crystal, or Sword. The evolution path from Tyrogue to Hitmontop is covered in the steps below.
Don't let Hitmontop's 455 base stat total fool you. Intimidate is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it A-Tier.
Watch for Aerodactyl (Flying), Starmie (Psychic), and Gardevoir (Fairy) when using Hitmontop. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB.
Run Intimidate on Hitmontop. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Hitmontop also gets Technician and Steadfast, but they don't compare.
Hitmontop fills the balanced role. It's a physical attacker with base 95 Attack. Base 70 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
Hitmontop has answers, but so do you. Super-effective STAB from faster Pokemon is the simplest answer. Flying, Psychic, and Fairy-type attackers hit hardest.
Hitmontop first appeared in Gold & Silver and has been available in 17 games across 9 generations. Obtainable through wild encounters in most titles where it appears.
