Tyrogue is a baby Pokemon from Gen 2 — it can't hold its own in battle yet. The payoff is Hitmonlee, which is where the real competitive value lives. Worth raising if you need one on your team. Only weak to Flying, Psychic, and Fairy.

You won't find a real weakness in Tyrogue's stat line. It's well-rounded for the Scuffle Pokemon, and what it does with that depends on moveset and items. Yields 1 Attack EV, on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.

Egg moves make a real difference. Tyrogue gets Bullet Punch and Counter exclusively through breeding, filling gaps that TMs and level-up can't touch. Normal and Ground coverage and more rounds out the picture alongside High Jump Kick and Brick Break.

  • At 210 BST, Tyrogue is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Hitmonlee before bringing it to any serious fight.

  • Tyrogue's biggest threats include Dodrio (Flying), Alakazam (Psychic), and Clefable (Fairy), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. At base 35 Speed, Tyrogue won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.

  • Tyrogue can evolve into Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan, and Hitmontop depending on the method. Tyrogue is the base form in a 4-stage evolutionary line.

  • Guts is the go-to ability for Tyrogue. It increases Attack to 1.5× with a major status ailment. Its hidden ability Vital Spirit can work in specific setups. Steadfast is the other option — pick based on what your team needs.

  • Tyrogue is leaning toward the physical side (base 35 Attack). Fragile — can't afford to take many hits, too. But the speed tells the real story — base 35 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go.

  • Tyrogue appears in 17 games, including Gold & Silver, Crystal, and Ruby & Sapphire.

Debuting in Gold & Silver, Tyrogue appears in 17 games across 8 generations. A reliable presence in most mainline games, typically found through catching or hatching as a base form.
