Its shining gold hair provides it with protection. It's reputed that keeping any of its fallen hairs will bring bad luck.

Dugtrio's Ground/Steel typing leaves it vulnerable to Fire, Water, Fighting, and Ground. It shrugs off Electric and Poison-type attacks completely. 8 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that. At base 110 Speed, Dugtrio outspeeds most threats and doesn't need to tank what it can outrun.

You commit to a move every time Dugtrio comes in. Choice Band gives raw power at the cost of move flexibility, and Arenatrap adds to that. Max Attack and Speed EVs make sure the locked move actually hurts. The remaining moves covers the rest.

or evolve from Diglett (Step 1)
  • In Sun & Moon, watch for Arcanine (Fire), Gyarados (Water), and Hitmonlee (Fighting) when using Dugtrio. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Ground-type attackers are also a problem. Dugtrio's base 110 Speed lets it outpace many threats and strike first, which matters more than trying to tank hits.

  • In Sun & Moon, Diglett evolves into Dugtrio at level 26. Dugtrio is the final evolution in a 3-stage line starting from Diglett. It sits at 425 BST in its evolved form.

  • For Sun & Moon, it depends on your team. Dugtrio at 425 BST isn't a powerhouse, but the Ground/Steel coverage might be exactly what you're missing.

  • In Sun & Moon, Dugtrio has a 425 base stat total and ranks as C-Tier: a niche pick in Sun & Moon's meta. It works best as a sweeper. Rock Slide with Choice Band is the standard set.

  • Sand Veil increases evasion to 1.25× during a sandstorm. That's the one you want on Dugtrio. Sand Force is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Tangling Hair works too if your team needs something different.

Dugtrio first appeared in Red & Blue and spans 20 games across 10 generations. It later gained an Alolan form in Generation 7, adding new dimensions to its competitive identity.
