Its three heads bob separately up and down to loosen the soil nearby, making it easier for it to burrow.
In battle, it digs through the ground and strikes the unsuspecting foe from an unexpected direction.
Dugtrio Weakness
Dugtrio's Ground/Steel typing leaves it vulnerable to Fire, Water, Fighting, and Ground. It shrugs off Electric and Poison-type attacks completely. 8 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that. At base 110 Speed, Dugtrio outspeeds most threats and doesn't need to tank what it can outrun.

Scarlet & Violet Dugtrio Best Moveset
One guaranteed turn is all Dugtrio needs. Focus Sash buys it, max Attack and Speed EVs make it count, and Sandforce adds something extra. The goal: deal early damage and deal damage with Earthquake. Normal coverage gives it play beyond just the lead turn.

Dugtrio Guide
In Scarlet & Violet, watch for Arcanine (Fire), Gyarados (Water), and Hitmonlee (Fighting) when using Dugtrio. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Ground-type attackers are also a problem. Dugtrio's base 110 Speed lets it outpace many threats and strike first, which matters more than trying to tank hits.
For Scarlet & Violet, it depends on your team. Dugtrio at 425 BST isn't a powerhouse, but the Ground/Steel coverage might be exactly what you're missing.
In Scarlet & Violet, Dugtrio has a 425 base stat total and ranks as B-Tier: a solid option in Scarlet & Violet for the right team. It works best as a sweeper. Earthquake with Focus Sash is the standard set.
Sand Veil increases evasion to 1.25× during a sandstorm. That's the one you want on Dugtrio. Sand Force is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Tangling Hair works too if your team needs something different.

Dugtrio first appeared in Red & Blue and spans 20 games across 10 generations. It later gained an Alolan form in Generation 7, adding new dimensions to its competitive identity.
