CRAWDAUNT has an extremely violent nature that compels it to challenge other living things to battle. Other life-forms refuse to live in ponds inhabited by this POKéMON, making them desolate places.

Crawdaunt Weakness

Type-wise, Crawdaunt takes extra damage from Electric, Grass, Fighting, and Bug. Psychic moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. 6 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that. Crawdaunt's physical bulk (base 85 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Bulk and offense in one package. Crawdaunt runs Leftovers for passive recovery each turn with a Rash nature, so it survives long enough to threaten with Crabhammer. Max HP and Sp. Atk EVs and the remaining moves make it hard to safely switch into.

Crawdaunt Guide

  • In Ruby & Sapphire, Don't let Crawdaunt's 468 base stat total fool you. Adaptability is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier as a cannon. Brickbreak with Leftovers is the standard set.

  • In Ruby & Sapphire, Crawdaunt's biggest threats include Jolteon (Electric), Exeggutor (Grass), and Blaziken (Fighting), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Bug-type attackers are also a problem.

  • In Ruby & Sapphire, Run Adaptability on Crawdaunt. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Crawdaunt also gets Hyper Cutter and Shell Armor, but they don't compare.

  • In Ruby & Sapphire, Crawdaunt fills the cannon role. It's a special attacker with base 90 Sp. Atk. At base 55 Speed, it won't be moving first often. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • In Ruby & Sapphire, Adaptability is the hidden ability. It increases the same-type attack bonus from 1.5× to 2×. Worth hunting for if you want Crawdaunt to compete at a higher level.

Game Availability

Crawdaunt first appeared in Ruby & Sapphire and has been available in 15 games across 8 generations. Obtainable through wild encounters in most titles where it appears.
