Combusken sits in the middle of its evolution line — stronger than Torchic but not yet at full power. Most trainers push through to Blaziken as fast as possible. Introduced in Gen 3. Only weak to Water, Ground, Flying, and Psychic.

Attack and Sp. Atk carry most of Combusken's stat budget. Speed's the obvious dump stat. Tough to catch and yields 2 Attack and Sp. Atk EVs. Follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.

TMs carry this one. Combusken learns Focus Punch and Overheat naturally for STAB, but the offensive range comes almost entirely from technical machines. Normal and Flying and beyond give it real matchup play.

Combusken can't be caught in Scarlet & Violet. Transfer Torchic from Ruby, Emerald, or Brilliant Diamond and evolve through the 2-stage line to get it. The step cards below map the full chain.

How to Obtain Combusken in Scarlet & Violet

  1. Combusken
    Step 2Combusken
  • Combusken is meant to evolve into Blaziken. At 405 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.

  • Combusken's biggest threats include Gyarados (Water), Swampert (Ground), and Dodrio (Flying), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Psychic-type attackers are also a problem.

  • Torchic evolves into Combusken at level 16. Combusken evolves into Blaziken at level 36. Combusken is a middle-stage evolution in the Torchic line.

  • Speed Boost is what you want on Combusken. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Blaze) work on paper but Speed Boost is what makes Combusken worth using.

  • At base 55 Speed, it won't be moving first often. On offense, Combusken is leaning toward the physical side (base 85 Attack).

  • Combusken appears in 16 games, including Ruby & Sapphire, FireRed & LeafGreen, and Emerald.

Available in 16 titles since its debut in Ruby & Sapphire, Combusken spans 7 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through catching or hatching as a base form in most mainline games.
