Combusken sits in the middle of its evolution line — stronger than Torchic but not yet at full power. Most trainers push through to Blaziken as fast as possible. Introduced in Gen 3. Only weak to Water, Ground, Flying, and Psychic.
Attack and Sp. Atk carry most of Combusken's stat budget. Speed's the obvious dump stat. Tough to catch and yields 2 Attack and Sp. Atk EVs. Follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
Combusken toughens up its legs and thighs by running through fields and mountains. This Pokémon’s legs possess both speed and power, enabling it to dole out 10 kicks in one second.
Combusken battles with the intensely hot flames it spews from its beak and with outstandingly destructive kicks. This Pokémon’s cry is very loud and distracting.
Combusken Weakness
AvgCombusken is weak to Water, Ground, Flying, and Psychic-type moves. With 6 resistances, the defensive profile is strong. Standard number of weaknesses for the Fire/Fighting typing.
Partway through Torchic's chain. Combusken still has another evolution ahead before reaching Blaziken. For breeding, average hatch time with no compatible partners via one egg group. Attack has grown the most so far (+25), but there's still another 125 stats to gain in the final evolution.
How to Evolve
Breed with Combusken to get Torchic eggs from the Ground egg group. Notable egg moves include Agility, Baton Pass, Counter and 11 more.
Speed Boost and Eviolite give Combusken staying power beyond its evolution stage. Adamant nature boosts Attack, max Attack and Speed EVs set the spread, and the pre-evolution bulk actually works here.

Combusken is meant to evolve into Blaziken. At 405 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.
Speed Boost is what you want on Combusken. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Blaze) work on paper but Speed Boost is what makes Combusken worth using.
At base 55 Speed, it won't be moving first often. On offense, Combusken is leaning toward the physical side (base 85 Attack).
Combusken appears in 16 games, including Ruby & Sapphire, FireRed & LeafGreen, and Emerald.
Available in 16 titles since its debut in Ruby & Sapphire, Combusken spans 7 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through catching or hatching as a base form in most mainline games.
