The stat line revolves around HP. Percentage recovery gets extra mileage here. Sp. Atk backs it up, though Speed doesn't pull its weight. Worth 2 HP EVs on a standard growth curve to max out.
It feeds mainly on sweet apples. It will also eat small bug Pokémon that are attracted by its sweet nectar.
When some Lechonk come along to lick the sweet nectar on Appletun’s back, Appletun will spew sticky nectar at them to drive them away.
Type-wise, Appletun takes extra damage from Ice, Poison, Flying, Bug, Dragon, and Fairy. Watch out for Ice attacks, those deal 4x damage. The Grass/Dragon typing picks up 4 resistances to work with. Thick Fat reduces Fire/Ice damage, further improving the defensive spread.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Ice |
| 2x (Weak) | Poison, Flying, Bug, Dragon, Fairy |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Ground |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Water, Electric, Grass |

Moves
Most of Appletun's flexibility comes from TMs. Same-type output runs through Draco Meteor and Leaf Storm, but Ghost and Normal and the rest of the TM pool push it from predictable to genuinely threatening.

Tutor Moves
The egg pool carries weight here. Defense Curl and Recycle aren't available any other way for Appletun, and they meaningfully change what it threatens. Stack those on top of Outrage and Solar Beam for solid options.
No wild encounters for Appletun. The 2-stage line runs through Applin, which you can catch at moderate rates from the locations below. Evolve through a special method once you've got the levels.

Appletun looks average on paper at 485 BST. But Thick Fat is why it sees play. Build around that and it pulls its weight. C-Tier attacker on our tier list.
Appletun's biggest threats include Walrein (Ice), Crobat (Poison), and Staraptor (Flying), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Walrein is the most dangerous since Ice moves deal 4x damage. Bug, Dragon, and Fairy-type attackers are also a problem. With 6 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter. At base 30 Speed, Appletun won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
Appletun gets Thick Fat, Ripen, and Gluttony. But Thick Fat is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that.
Appletun is a mixed attacker with base 85 Attack and 100 Sp. Atk. Enough bulk to take a hit or two, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 30 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. Fits the attacker role.
Thick Fat is the hidden ability. It halves damage from fire and ice moves. Worth hunting for if you want Appletun to compete at a higher level.
Available since Sword & Shield, Appletun appears in 2 games spanning 3 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained a Gigantamax form in Generation 8.
