ROUTE 4 MAP
Connects the Mt. Moon exit to Cerulean City heading east. A one-way ledge drop midway through prevents backtracking west. The Pokemon Center at the Mt. Moon entrance is just behind you.
Pokemon Encounters
A salesman offers a Magikarp at level 5 for 500 Pokedollars. Seems useless now but evolves into Gyarados at level 20. Ekans at 25% and Spearow at 35% fill the grass, Mankey at 5%.

Route 4 Guide
A man in the Pokemon Center before Mt. Moon sells a level 5 Magikarp for 500 Pokedollars. It evolves into Gyarados at level 20, which is one of the strongest Pokemon in FRLG. You can also fish for free Magikarp later, but buying this one gives you a head start on the grind.
Yes. Several routes have version-exclusive encounters. FireRed gets Oddish, Growlithe, Scyther, and Electabuzz in certain areas, while LeafGreen gets Bellsprout, Vulpix, Pinsir, and Magmar. Check the encounter table for this route and look for the version tag next to each Pokemon.
After battling a trainer, walk 100 steps to recharge it, then use it while standing on the route. Nearby trainers ready for a rematch get an exclamation mark over their head. Rematched trainers carry stronger teams as you progress through the game. You get the VS Seeker from a girl in the Vermilion City Pokemon Center.
