This Pokémon scatters burning scales. Most of the danger of these scales is not in their heat—it’s in the way they rob the surrounding air of oxygen.

Volcarona Guide

  • We rate Volcarona B-Tier: a solid choice for the right team. At 550 BST, it fits the sweeper role. Base 135 Sp. Atk stands out.

  • Watch for Tyranitar (Rock), Starmie (Water), and Staraptor (Flying) when using Volcarona. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Tyranitar is the most dangerous since Rock moves deal 4x damage.

  • Flame Body has a 30% chance of burning attacking Pokémon on contact. That's the one you want on Volcarona. Swarm is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.

  • Base 100 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. On offense, Volcarona is a special attacker with base 135 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a sweeper.

  • Run Quiver Dance, Quiver Dance, Fierydance, and Bugbuzz on Volcarona. Quiver Dance is the most common pick at 0% usage. This set covers the sweeper role with a mix of damage and utility.

Game Availability
