Is Stantler Good in Diamond & Pearl Playthrough?
Not in the Sinnoh dex. Transfer-only Normal from Johto. AbilityIntimidate drops Attack on switch-in. AbilityFrisk is new in Gen 4 and reveals the opponent's held item. Stantler doesn't evolve in Gen 4. The import is outclassed by everything.

Best Locations to Catch Stantler in Diamond & Pearl
Stantler Weakness
Type-wise, Stantler takes extra damage from Fighting. Ghost moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. Sap Sipper grants an additional Grass immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Stantler leans offensive (base 95 Atk) rather than trying to tank its weaknesses.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Fighting |
| 0x (Immune) | Ghost |
- Fairy type does not exist — Dragon has fewer checks
- Physical / Special split now per-move (introduced Gen IV)

How to Evolve
DP Stantler Best Moveset
Physical Normal hits at 95 Attack and 85 Speed with AbilityIntimidate cutting physical threats on the switch. The moveset has MoveHypnosis for sleep and coverage moves, but nothing that makes Stantler stand out against stronger Normal types.

Moves List
The egg pool carries weight here. Bite and Disable aren't available any other way for Stantler, and they meaningfully change what it threatens. Stack those on top of Giga Impact and Thrash for solid options.

Stantler Diamond & Pearl Guide
In Diamond & Pearl, Stantler isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Wyrdeer to unlock its full potential. At 465 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.
In Diamond & Pearl, Stantler's biggest threats include Machamp (Fighting), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.
In Diamond & Pearl, Run Intimidate on Stantler. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Stantler also gets Frisk, but they don't compare.
In Diamond & Pearl, Stantler fills the balanced role. It's a physical attacker with base 95 Attack. Base 85 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
In Diamond & Pearl, Stantler does the job early-game if you need a Normal type on your team. Evolve it into Wyrdeer before the later gyms and it holds up fine through the story.
Game Availability
Stantler has been available in 17 games since Gold & Silver, though obtaining it requires an item-based evolution. This extra step makes it less common than Pokemon found through standard wild encounters.
