ALL RED & BLUE POKEMON

Red and Blue's Kanto Pokedex is the original 151. Every Pokemon on this page has Gen 1 stats, typing, and evolution data. There's no Special split here. One stat handles both Sp. Atk and Sp. Def, which is why Alakazam and Starmie are so dominant. Use the sidebar to filter by type or sort by base stat total. Click any card for the full stat breakdown, moveset, and where to catch it in Red and Blue.

FAQ

  • 151. That's the original Kanto Pokedex, running from Bulbasaur (#001) to Mew (#151). There's no National Dex expansion here. What you see is what you get.

  • Red gets Ekans, Oddish, Mankey, Growlithe, Scyther, and Electabuzz. Blue gets Sandshrew, Bellsprout, Meowth, Vulpix, Pinsir, and Magmar. You need to trade to complete the dex.

  • Squirtle gives you the smoothest early game. Blastoise handles Brock, Misty isn't a problem, and Water coverage stays useful through the whole run. Bulbasaur breezes through the first two gyms but falls off later. Charmander is a rough start, but Charizard is a fan favorite for a reason.

  • Gen 1 Psychic has no real counters. Ghost moves don't affect Psychic due to a bug, Bug-type moves are all terrible (Pin Missile and Twineedle at best), and Dark type doesn't exist yet. Alakazam with 135 Special deals massive damage and tanks special attacks since Sp. Atk and Sp. Def aren't split.

  • Generation 1. Released in 1996 in Japan and 1998 in North America for the Game Boy. These are the games that started everything. The mechanics are different from modern games: no abilities, no held items, no breeding, and the Special stat controls both offense and defense.

  • Speed directly affects your critical hit rate in Gen 1. The formula uses base Speed divided by 512. Fast Pokemon like Persian (115 Speed) crit nearly 27% of the time with Slash, which has a high-crit modifier. This makes Speed one of the most important stats in Red and Blue.

  • It comes down to the exclusives you want. Red gets Growlithe (one of the few good Fire types) and Scyther. Blue gets Vulpix and Meowth. The story, map, and mechanics are identical. Pick the version that has the Pokemon you like.
