Stats & Training
Defense and Sp. Atk carry most of Omastar's stat budget. Speed's the obvious dump stat. Tough to catch and yields 2 Defense stat exp. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
Apparently, it cracked SHELLDER’s shell with its sharp fangs and sucked out the insides.
Once wrapped around its prey, it never lets go. It eats the prey by tearing at it with sharp fangs.
Omastar Weakness
Omastar's Rock/Water typing leaves it vulnerable to Grass, Electric, Fighting, and Ground. Grass hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. 5 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Omastar's physical bulk (base 125 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Grass |
| 2x (Weak) | Electric, Fighting, Ground |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Normal, Ice, Poison, Flying |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Fire |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
- Special stat split into Sp.Atk and Sp.Def
In Gold & Silver, Machamp's Earthquake hits Omastar for 53-63%. Golem's Earthquake hits Omastar for 75-89%. Jolteon's Thunderbolt also KOs at 101-119%.

Omastar Guide
For Gold & Silver, we rate Omastar C-Tier: a niche pick in Gold & Silver's meta. At 495 BST, it fits the support role. Hydro Pump with Leftovers is the standard set.
At base 55 Speed, it won't be moving first often. On offense, Omastar is a mixed attacker with base 60 Attack and 115 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a support.
In Gold & Silver, run Hydro Pump, Ice Beam, Reflect, and Raindance on Omastar. Hydro Pump is the most common pick at 21% usage. This set covers the support role with a mix of damage and utility.
For Gold & Silver, Omastar has answers, but so do you. Super-effective STAB from faster Pokemon is the simplest answer. Grass, Electric, and Fighting-type attackers hit hardest.
