Stats & Training
Omanyte's spread isn't flashy. Defense leads, HP trails, 2 stats clear the bar. Tough to catch and worth 1 Defense EV, on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
It’s a Pokémon that was resurrected from a fossil using modern science. It swam in ancient seas.

Omanyte Weakness
Type-wise, Omanyte takes extra damage from Grass, Electric, Fighting, and Ground. Watch out for Grass attacks, those deal 4x damage. It resists 5 types, giving it decent defensive coverage. Omanyte's physical bulk (base 100 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Omanyte Guide
In Sun & Moon, Omanyte isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Omastar to unlock its full potential. At 355 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.
In Sun & Moon, Omanyte's biggest threats include Venusaur (Grass), Jolteon (Electric), and Hitmonlee (Fighting), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Venusaur is the most dangerous since Grass moves deal 4x damage. Ground-type attackers are also a problem. At base 35 Speed, Omanyte won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
In Sun & Moon, Run Swift Swim on Omanyte. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Omanyte also gets Shell Armor and Weak Armor, but they don't compare.
In Sun & Moon, Omanyte fills the trick room role. It's a special attacker with base 90 Sp. Atk. Base 35 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go.
In Sun & Moon, Omanyte does the job early-game if you need a Rock/Water type on your team. Evolve it into Omastar before the later gyms and it holds up fine through the story.
Game Availability
Omanyte has been part of the series since Red & Blue, appearing in 19 titles across all 10 generations. As a Gen 1 original, it's one of the most consistently available Pokemon in the franchise.
