Omanyte is technically a pre-evolution of Omastar, but it holds its own in formats where Eviolite is allowed. Swift Swim doubles its Speed in rain, adding extra value. Watch the Grass matchup though — quadruple damage means one hit can end it. Known as the Spiral Pokemon.
Omanyte's spread isn't flashy. Defense leads, HP trails, 2 stats clear the bar. Tough to catch and worth 1 Defense EV, on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
Omanyte is one of the ancient and long-since-extinct Pokémon that have been regenerated from fossils by people. If attacked by an enemy, it withdraws itself inside its hard shell.
Omanyte Weakness
VulnerableType-wise, Omanyte takes extra damage from Grass, Electric, Fighting, and Ground. Watch out for Grass attacks, those deal 4x damage. It resists 5 types, giving it decent defensive coverage. Omanyte's physical bulk (base 100 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
Omanyte evolves into Omastar. It's a two-stage chain with the method shown below. No compatible partners for breeding via two egg groups. Eggs are slow to hatch. Evolving adds up to 140 stat points total.
How to Evolve
Breed Omanyte from the Water1 and Water3 egg groups. Pass egg moves like Aurora Beam, Bide, Bubble Beam and 11 more to offspring.

Best Locations
Omanyte isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Omastar to unlock its full potential. At 355 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.
Omanyte's biggest threats include Venusaur (Grass), Jolteon (Electric), and Hitmonlee (Fighting), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Venusaur is the most dangerous since Grass moves deal 4x damage. Ground-type attackers are also a problem. At base 35 Speed, Omanyte won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
Omanyte evolves into Omastar at level 40. Omanyte is the base form of this evolutionary line.
Run Swift Swim on Omanyte. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Omanyte also gets Shell Armor and Weak Armor, but they don't compare.
Omanyte fills the trick room role. It's a special attacker with base 90 Sp. Atk. Base 35 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go.
