Horsea sits at the start of its evolution line — not yet at full power, but that changes fast. Most trainers push through to Kingdra as fast as possible. Part of the Gen 1 roster. Only weak to Electric and Grass.
Nothing fancy in Horsea's spread. It leans special with Defense out front. And you'll get 1 Sp. Atk EV per KO for it. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
If it senses any danger, it will vigorously spray water or a special type of ink from its mouth.
Horsea Weakness
AvgHorsea is weak to Electric and Grass-type moves. Not many exploitable gaps in the Water typing defensive chart. Horsea's physical bulk (base 70 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split
Horsea evolves into Kingdra, but can't breed. At 295 stats as a Water type, evolution is the only path. Evolving adds up to 245 stat points total.
How to Evolve
Best Build
Gen 1 build content has limited support (no abilities, held items, or natures).
Try selecting a different game/generation filter, or check back later.
Most of Horsea's flexibility comes from TMs. Same-type output runs through Hydro Pump and Surf, but Normal and Ice and the rest of the TM pool push it from predictable to genuinely threatening.

Tutor Moves
Horsea is available from early-game fishing spots onward at high spawn rates. 5 encounter spots give you plenty of options. Grab one early and it'll be ready to evolve or train by mid-game.
Best Locations
Horsea is a fishing-only catch in this game. 5 spots at Lv. 5-25 using Super Rod, so bring the right rod and check the rates on each location.
At 295 BST, Horsea is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Seadra before bringing it to any serious fight.
Horsea evolves into Seadra at level 32. Horsea is the base form in a 3-stage evolutionary line.
Horsea is a special attacker with base 70 Sp. Atk. Fragile — can't afford to take many hits, too. But the speed tells the real story — at base 60 Speed, it won't be moving first often.
Horsea appears in 20 games, including Yellow, Red & Blue, and Gold & Silver.
Present since Red & Blue, Horsea appears in 20 games spanning 9 generations. Gen 1 originals like Horsea have the longest track record of availability in the series.
