Dugtrio's built around physical offense. Speed leads the charge, HP pays for it. Tough to catch, worth 2 Speed EVs. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
Its metallic whiskers are heavy, so it's not very fast, but it has the power to dig through bedrock.
Its shining gold whiskers are advanced sensors that can detect vibrations from sounds several miles away.
Dugtrio's Ground/Steel typing leaves it vulnerable to Fire, Water, Fighting, and Ground. It shrugs off Electric and Poison-type attacks completely. 8 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that. At base 110 Speed, Dugtrio outspeeds most threats and doesn't need to tank what it can outrun.

You commit to a move every time Dugtrio comes in. Choice Band gives raw power at the cost of move flexibility, and Arenatrap adds to that. Max Attack and Speed EVs make sure the locked move actually hurts. The remaining moves covers the rest.

In Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, watch for Arcanine (Fire), Gyarados (Water), and Hitmonlee (Fighting) when using Dugtrio. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Ground-type attackers are also a problem. Dugtrio's base 110 Speed lets it outpace many threats and strike first, which matters more than trying to tank hits.
For Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, it depends on your team. Dugtrio at 425 BST isn't a powerhouse, but the Ground/Steel coverage might be exactly what you're missing.
In Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, Dugtrio has a 425 base stat total and ranks as C-Tier: a niche pick in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon's meta. It works best as a sweeper. Rock Slide with Choice Band is the standard set.
Sand Veil increases evasion to 1.25× during a sandstorm. That's the one you want on Dugtrio. Sand Force is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Tangling Hair works too if your team needs something different.
Dugtrio first appeared in Red & Blue and spans 20 games across 10 generations. It later gained an Alolan form in Generation 7, adding new dimensions to its competitive identity.
